In 24 hours, Michael and I will be hopping aboard a plane which will carry us safely to the East coast. I am looking forward to catching up with my folks and having a single night of debauchery with my old friends in beautiful Halifax. It has been two years since my last visit; this one is well overdue. We plan on doing some house-hunting to keep the doors of opportunity wide open.

Although my home now, is in B.C. with Michael, I have to consciously stop myself from saying “I can’t wait to go back home!” when referring to Nova Scotia. Twenty-three years of living in the same place will do that to you. I just hope that I have many more East coast Autumns, Saturday morning markets, power outages and creaky, heritage floors in my future.

I want to practice yoga and I want it to mean something to me.

I want to be less of a talker and more of a listener.

I will not harbour any unhealthy thoughts anymore.

I want to become more spiritually connected to myself.

Calm.

Sondre Lerche covering Animal Collective’s “Bluish” unveils a new appreciation for this song. I haven’t felt this way about a song since Mojave 3′s “In love with a view”. Really, it’s been that long. I like to close my eyes and pretend that this song is being played only for me.

It’s Monday. Up here in beautiful Northern Alberta, it is raining. I have had this idea for a while now and decided that today is the perfect day to put it in motion. Here is how it works:

Choose someone who you are thankful for. Your partner, your parents, your BFF, your pet. Make it good.
Make a list of five reasons why you are thankful for having this person in your life.
If you have a blog, post these on your blog. Send that person an email, call them, write them a letter. Just let them know how much you appreciate them!
Finally, leave a comment in the comments section here letting me know that you did this. Or, re-tweet on Twitter. Or both!
Sit back and enjoy that warm and fuzzy feeling.

I will get the ball rolling with my lovely list here, for my sister Allie.

She introduced me to Lil Wayne. Since then, my life has been forever changed
Allison is a great listener. And an honest listener. I know that I can sit down with her, tell her what is going on in my life and she really listens. I mean really listens.

She has my back. Don’t mess with me cos you’re messin’ with her.
Allie is always thinking of other people before herself. The thing is, I don’t think that she realizes that she does it. This makes her an even better person.

She is strong, independent and up for trying new things. This is great because let’s face it, in many ways her and I have the exact opposite tastes. She has checked out groups like Girl Talk and Metric even though she didn’t have them on her playlist. I think that says a lot about a person. It inspires me to do the same.
BONUS: She has her gun license. Fo realz.

So friends, family, ex-lovers let’s start a wave of love and gratitude!

I have updated my Literary Feast section with the books I’ve recently read. I finally got my hands on Douglas Coupland’s Generation X and am tackling it with much fervor. What books have you been reading lately?

As I laid on my back this morning, I looked up at the photos hanging above my head. In particular a group shot from our wedding of the girls in our wedding party (did someone say PARTY?). Do you dab out faces as people slowly start leaving your life? That seemed childish to me. Time has a way of doing that for you I think, blurring the edges and fading away the memories which is why you keep those precious to you as close as possible. Make an effort. Don’t just tell your friends that you love them, show them. If they don’t accept your love, or yourself for who you are, their loss. Chin up, brush the dirt off of your knees and keep on keeping on. You did your best; goodnight & go home.
